During its previous regime, the Government had been instrumental in the creation of the Saras Protection Society. The core objective of the society was to study ecology and provide support to activities that would ensure the survival of the Saras in perpetuity. During the last two year, a large number of activities have been taken up, to further the cause of Saras Conservation, in Uttar Pradesh. Special projects have been funded by the society, for improving the habitat in favor of Saras and in promoting Saras Conservation consciousness, across the state.

To measure the effectiveness of the efforts that have been made, Saras census is now taken up, biannually. According to the census of 2013, the Saras numbers have gone up to almost 12000, in the state.

The Saras Protection Society supports, extensive educational programs in all the areas of U.P., rich in wetlands.
