The State Government vide this notification number 1783 dated 09-06-2014 has notified the 45th Tiger Reserve of the country that is the Pilibhit Tiger Reserve. This is the 3rd Tiger Reserve in the State, The 1st was Dudhwa Tiger Reserve declared in 1987, the 2nd was Amangarh Tiger Reserve, declared in 2012.

The Pilibhit Tiger Reserve covers an area of 72689.48 ha. situated along the Indo-Nepal border. The forest are rich and diverse. It is a mosaic of high sal forests, plantation and grasslands with several water bodies. The jungles are home to a myriad of wild animals including the endangered tiger, swamp deer, bengal florican, hog deer, leopard, etc. The large carnivores are supported by a very large prey base consisting of cheetal, sambar, wild boar, hog deer, swamp deer, blue bull, etc. The bird life is very rich and diverse and hundreds of species of birds can be seen round. The Chuka Interpretation Zones with nature interpretation center, cottages & edge of huge water body is unique & very popular with visitors.

Considering the unique biological, ecological and conservation values of the Forest areas, the State Government decided to declare the Pilibhit Tiger Reserve. With this new Tiger Reserve, the forest wildlife environment and ecological conservation in Uttar Pradesh has been given greatest possible emphasis & is bound to give positive impetus to the conservation & preservation of wildlife nationally and globally. Thus all the significant conservation areas in the Terai belt of the State are within the conservation network.
